What is it really like to work in biogas project management as a student? What responsibilities do students take on in client projects? And what makes greenValue an attractive place to gain practical experience?

For many years, greenValue has been working with students from a wide range of academic backgrounds. For greenValues Managing Director Daniel, they are much more than simply additional support for the team.

Putting Theory into Practice at greenValue

Daniel: Students bring motivation, up-to-date academic knowledge and, quite often, entirely new perspectives. At the same time, we want to offer them more than just a conventional student job. Our aim is to actively involve them in projects, give them responsibility and support both their professional and personal development.

One of these students is Kenneth. He is studying Business Administration at ohm Technische Hochschule Nürnberg and is currently writing his bachelor’s thesis. At greenValue, Kenneth works in Biogas Project Management.

Daniel: Kenneth, how did you first hear about greenValue?

Kenneth: While looking for an internship for my mandatory practical semester, I came across greenValue GmbH through my university’s job database. I was particularly interested in project management and renewable energies. Although I had relatively little practical experience at the time, I was warmly welcomed from the start. I initially joined the company as a student, then completed my six-month mandatory internship and am now back working as part of the greenValue team alongside my studies.

Structured Onboarding and Responsibility from Day One

Daniel: A good start is very important to us, which is why we deliberately invest time in a structured onboarding process. How did you experience the first few weeks?

Kenneth: Nadine, who holds commercial power of attorney (Prokura), and Daniel guided me through the onboarding process step by step. From the very beginning and throughout our regular training sessions, topics such as confidentiality, the handling of sensitive data and the responsible use of artificial intelligence have played an important role.

What I particularly appreciated was that new ideas were actively encouraged and that I was trusted with responsibility. At the same time, all processes are carried out in accordance with our ISO 9001-certified quality management system. I was able to take ownership of tasks at an early stage and further develop my proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

What Responsibilities Does a Student Take On in Biogas Project Management?

Daniel: Many students wonder whether they will mainly be handling administrative tasks or whether they will have the opportunity to actively contribute to projects. What does your day-to-day work look like?

Kenneth: That mix is exactly what makes the role so interesting for me. Internally, I prepare and maintain meeting minutes, schedules and task lists. I also research market and industry topics, such as how carbon credits work, and assist with the preparation of presentations.

In client projects, I am involved in biogas project management, among other areas. For example, I support preparations for the continued operation of a biogas plant, prepare project status reports for clients, carry out stakeholder analyses, compare quotations and assist with economic feasibility calculations.

I also prepare documentation for shareholder meetings and support our document management activities.

What I particularly value is the opportunity to take ownership of individual work packages and to work closely with our Managing Director. This gives me first-hand experience of how projects are structured and planned, how their economic viability is assessed and how they are successfully implemented.

Students at greenValue: More Than Just a Part-Time Job

Daniel: Looking back on your time at greenValue so far, what have you personally gained from the experience?

Kenneth: Looking back, submitting a speculative application to greenValue was one of the best decisions I made during my studies. I have been able to expand my professional knowledge while also developing a wide range of new skills.

For me, learning how to approach complex tasks and handle confidential information has been particularly valuable. Above all, I have learned to take responsibility and work independently.
