Gamesa (opm) - Gamesa sells 70 MW Mexican wind farm to Iberdrola

The development, located in one of Mexico's windiest regions, will comprise 35 2.0 MW wind turbines

Gamesa, a global technology leader in wind energy and a significant player in the development and sale of wind farms, has sold Iberdrola a wind farm development in Mexico with a future total installed capacity of 70 MW.

Gamesa will be in charge of developing and building the Dos Arbolitos wind farm located in the town of Juchitán de Zaragoza in the state of Oaxaca, one of the country's windiest regions. The scope of the agreement encompasses the supply and installation of 35 Gamesa 2.0 MW wind turbines. The wind turbines are scheduled for delivery at the end of 2013, while the facility is slated for commissioning some time in 2014.

This transaction falls under the company's new strategy in the wind farm development and sale segment: the goal is to become the key technology partner, with the expertise and skills to navigate a wind farm through the end-to-end development phase (site identification, wind resource measurement, government permits, engineering, construction, turbine supply and O&M services); in short, to leverage and monetise the group's know-how and pipeline without having to put up internal funds.

Gamesa boasts a significant presence in Latin America, particularly in Mexico, where in addition to developing and on-selling wind farms, it supplies, installs and maintains wind turbines. In its capacity as developer, the company has developed, built and commissioned over 170 MW in Mexico and currently has a pipeline of 544 MW at varying stages of development. As technology provider, Gamesa had installed 700 MW of capacity in Mexico by year-end 2012.
